Astaneh Ashrafieh: A Tourism Attraction in the Caspian
According to the Iranian Students' Tourism & Travelling Agency(istta): It has a humid and moderate Caspian climate. It is bound to Caspian Sea in the north, Amlash in the south, Lahijan in the east and Rasht in the west. It is seven kilometers off Lahijan. The city used to be named Kouchan. However, following the martyrdom of Seyyed Jalaleddin Ashraf, the brother of Imam Reza (AS), and his burial there, the city was named Astaneh Ashrafieh. Some 42 percent of its population are urban dwellers, while 58 percent are villagers. Astaneh Ashrafieh’s annual precipitation rate stands at 1,500 millimeters on average.   Sefidroud River Sefidroud River divides Gilan Plain to western and eastern parts. It originates from Zagros Mountain Range and stretches along 650 km. The river passes through the regions of Kurdestan, Azarbaijan and Zanjan. It enters Gilan via Manjil Valley and Imamzadeh Hashem and then reaches Astaneh Ashrafieh. After passing through the rural districts of Chahardeh, Kisom, Koorka and Dehsar, it terminates at Caspian Sea in Kiashahr. A bridge, with a length of 850 meters, has been established across Sefidroud to link Astaneh Ashrafieh to Rasht. The beautiful coast of Sefidroud is full of trees and paddy fields. Many tourists choose Sefidroud River’s bank for staying in spring and winter. Fishing is a popular hobby among Gilan’s people. Crops Due to the flow of Sefidroud River, Astaneh Ashrafieh has a fertile soil. The river leaves valuable alluvial sediments. Therefore, there are numerous farmlands and gardens alongside the river’s banks. Major farming crops include rice, hemp, silk cocoon, peanut, greengage, sunflower seeds, citrus, carrot, pepper and pumpkin. It is one of the main sites for growing poplar seedlings. Its rice is famous and tasty. Local markets, namely Doshanbeh Bazaar and Panjshanbeh Bazaar, are appropriate places for public gatherings and local transactions. Rice transactions are conducted in these bazaars. Also, commodities such as chicken and eggs, vegetables and handicrafts such as straw products are sold there. Seyyed Jalaleddin Ashraf Mausoleum After the burial of Seyyed Jalaleddin Ashraf in Kouchan, the city was named Astaneh Ashrafieh. The mausoleum is a beautiful building with colorful tileworks, mirrored roof, a great dome and numerous porticos. Also, there is a theological school near the mausoleum for training scholars in religious sciences. Moin Mausoleum Dr. Mohammad Moin was born in Rasht in 1914. Moin graduated from Teachers College in 1934 and received his PhD in literature. He was a member of Iran's Academy of Persian Language and Literature and Tehran University’s professor in the field of research in literary texts for years. He cooperated with Ali Akbar Dehkhoda, Iranian linguist and author of the dictionary of Persian Language, in compiling Dehkhoda Dictionary. The six-volume dictionary is his masterpiece. Moin died in 1971 and is buried in Astaneh Ashrafieh near the mausoleum of Seyyed Jalaleddin Ashraf. The city has several universities, including Mehr-e Astan Institute of Higher Education, Islamic Azad University’s Astaneh Ashrafieh Branch, Payam-e Noor University and Technical School of Imam Jafar as-Sadeq (PBUH). Kiashahr Forest Park Kiashahr Forest Park is located on the southern bank of Caspian Sea. The 18-hectare forest is in Bandar Kiashahr. It vegetation includes alder trees that grow in humid places. Kiashahr fishing harbor is located in Boujagh Wetland. Boujagh Wetland, in light of its importance for hosting migratory birds, was registered on the list of 1971 Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. Asgarabad Coast Asgarabad Coast is located in Dehka rural district in Kiashahr-Chamkhaleh Road. Tourists can see plains and paddy fields on one side and forest trees on the other side. Since it has a safe swimming zone and other recreational facilities, tourists and locals can swim there.
